Domestic Abuse and Harassment

Practical legal support for victims of domestic abuse and coercive control

If someone close to you harms you, even if it doesn’t involve violence, it may be domestic abuse. This extends to coercive control, which is also a criminal offence.

Domestic abuse can take various forms such as physical, sexual, social, mental, financial, or emotional abuse, whether in person or online. It may also involve stalking and harassment.

Children living in households where domestic abuse occurs often experience fear, worry, sadness and anger. Despite a parent’s attempts to shield them, children are often aware of the situation and conflict can be damaging to their own relationships; both with their parents and wider family.

If you are currently experiencing domestic abuse, our team of experienced specialist lawyers can actively support you and your children. We can seek legal protection through the family court on your behalf without the need for criminal proceedings.

We have several legal tools at our disposal. Occupation orders can provide immediate protection by excluding the perpetrator from your home. Non-molestation orders aim to safeguard you from further harm.

Additionally, we can direct you to agencies that offer emotional support and help you and your children cope with the impact of domestic abuse.

If you are a victim of domestic abuse or are concerned about the effect the behaviour of someone close is having on your well-being, contact us in complete confidence for legal advice.

If you are accused of domestic abuse, we can also assist you in navigating the court process or negotiate arrangements to move forward.

We can be reached in person, by phone or by video call and our offices are conveniently located in St Albans, Harpenden and Luton.
