“Earlier this year, Acas published new advice on neurodiversity issues, with the aim of helping employers raise awareness about neurodiversity and cultivate inclusive working environments.
Neurodiversity is a term used to describe the natural variations in the way people’s brains work. It is estimated that around one in seven people are neurodivergent, with common examples including autism, ADHD and dyslexia.
There is no employment legislation that addresses neurodiversity specifically, although some neurodivergent employees may be classed as disabled under the Equality Act 2010. Because neurodiversity affects individuals differently, some employees with neurodivergent conditions will not meet this statutory definition, while others may do so, even though they do not consider themselves to be disabled…”
